And on Whit Friday the Italians always had an orphaned band from Liverpool,
only kids for their procession, and after the procession was over the kids--,
this kids' band would go round the area on the street corners and play a bit,
collecting money, you know, for the orphanage and then they'd come in here in
the square. "And the hanging men and women" [sings], everybody giggling
and dancing all round the building, you know, in the square, and hoards of people
used to follow them. And then when they'd finished playing different people
would take one, two, three or four of the kids up into the house, give them
a meal and a shilling a piece, you know, the kids used to love it
